Verwurzelt in der Musik seiner Heimat, sprechen die Stimme und die Kompositionen des aus Brasilien stammenden Sängers, Gitarristen und Komponisten Jabuti eine ebenso eigene wie universelle Sprache. Intensiv und zärtlich, spröde und brüchig, reflektieren sie die Liebe und das Leben und fangen den Zauber des Moments in all seiner Zerbrechlichkeit ein. Seine Songs scheinen zu atmen und klingen seltsam vertraut, seine Gitarren-Arrangements sind so vollständig, rhythmisch dicht und melodisch ausgefeilt, daß man meint, ein ganzes Ensemble zu hören. Seine unverkennbare, markante Stimme vermittelt musikalisches Gefühl und inhaltliche Poesie über jede sprachliche Grenze hinweg.

Jabuti – Outro Ar (english)
With the aid of several wonderful lyricists and musicians, the Brazilian guitarist, composer and vocalist Jabuti has woven together a masterful selection of tunes that lyrically and melodically offer compelling examinations of the wonders of love and life. Entirely in Portuguese, Outro Ar (Different Air) has 14 songs that have their origins in Jabuti’s northern Brazilian musical tradition, but also owe something to the influence of artists such as Antonio Carlos Jobim, Caetano Veloso and Milton Nascimiento and to musical styles such as jazz, blues and pop.
The tunes‘ poetic lyrics reflect the mystical South American literary style that has come to be known so well via the prose of writers like Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Isabelle Allende. The impression that they make is translucent yet riveting. . . and the music, all by Jabuti, makes these songs immediately accessible and transcendent of the language barriers. Even if you do not understand Portuguese, you will feel the yearning for an unrequited love in Homen Invisivel „I know that I’m invisible but your hand strokes my body and catches my heart off guard“ (#1), or in the title song (#5) will hear the optimism that is felt if one „will travel, follow the song, and, in his heart find life, open new roads, on which to bring you“. On O Beijo (#7) an ode to the kiss, you will hear the thrill that is felt „when I kiss I kiss that kiss“. Jazz influences are also keenly heard via the instrumental interludes offered on sax and clarinet (American Denny Goodhew), flugelhorn (American Eddie Hayes) and the cello work of Wolfgang Loos. From sad to happy, young to old, love to introspection, these songs cover a lot of territory and do it with an irresistible panache.
